Victorian English Oak Tantalus with 3 Cut Crystal "Pinwheel" Decanters & Stoppers and Engraved Plaque
An 1890s Victorian English oak and brass Tantalus by Betjemann's with 3 cut crystal pinwheel design decanters with stoppers as well as a tiny engraved brass plaque that reads "Beard Cheltenham". Originally patented in 1881 by George Betjemann, a tantalus is a wooden case for decanters, characterised by a lock and key. When secured within the tantalus, the decanters can be neither unstoppered nor removed.
